ABOUT Good Robot Brewing Company
Welcome to Good Robot, a brewery, bar, restaurant and beer garden run by a pack of misfits in the heart of Halifax’s historic North End. Our beers are known to be eclectic, eccentric, and untrue to style, fraught with foraged materials, impulse decisions, and whimsy. We don’t make ‘craft beer’; we make beer (kinda). And we enjoy sharing our beer, our building, and our childish minds with our communities. In the summer, our GastroTurf (beer garden featuring AstroTurf) brings all the flavours of summer ales to the familiar comfort of a putting green. Year-round, we host oddball events, brew with the community, sponsor festivals, facilitate charitable incentives, and make questionable marketing decisions. Want to sit your bum somewhere and let your freak flag fly? Well, matey, set sail for Halifax's Most Questionable Brewing Experience.
STAFF
Good Robot began with 3 longtime friends and misfits who quit engineering to pursue their dream of quitting engineering. Of course, we had to do something to make money, and given we were spending nearly half of each paycheck on beer, pursuing a good-time beer company was the next natural step. Since 2015, the group of 3 former engineers has grown into a band of misfits who share our values of good times, goodwill and good nature. So drop by sometime - maybe you’ll join our band, too.Alex

PARTNERSHIPS
Another thing about Good Robot Brewing Company, sometimes we meet a group of misfits that share our values and together, we do weird, wonderful things. We support the following incentives by virtue of many of our staff and guests being femmes, Bahamians, performers, queer, musicians, and/or filmmakers.Femmebot
Spearheaded by our brewer Kelly, FemmeBot celebrates women and those identifying as women in brewing. Throughout the year, we host collaborations, homebrew competitions, sponsorships, and events catering to women who love the experience of beer.
FLAVABOT
Spearheaded by our brewer Gio, FlavaBot is a collaboration with Limestone Group which celebrates Bahamian culture through beer, food, and entertainment. Watch our events page for our next collaboration.
IN THE DEAD OF WINTER
In the Dead of Winter Festival is an annual songwriter-based festival. The Halifax festival began in 2006 at the legendary Khyber Club with one small stage and eleven artists. Its focus is smaller scale, intimate shows focusing on the art of songwriting.
HALIFAX INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS FESTIVAL
HIFF provides a unique venue for filmmakers and media artists to share their work in a forum dedicated to the celebration of independent cinema.
OUTeast FILM FESTIVAL
OUTeast Film Festival is the only exclusive presenter of LGBTQ film in Atlantic Canada.
HALIFAX FRINGE FESTIVAL
The Halifax Fringe Festival first raised its dingy, moth-eaten curtain in 1991. Like many Fringe Festivals, HFF is experimental in nature and unjuried.
NOVA SCOTIA DODGEBALL
Dodgeball is a non-sanctioned sport and therefore requires an organization to create the foundation. NS Dodgeball also supports local causes such as Special Olympics Halifax and Feed Nova Scotia.
Ladies Beer League
The Ladies Beer League is a welcoming space for women who love craft beer. They support independent breweries through social events & fundraising activities and receive sweet discounts in our Tap and Retail rooms.
Mayflower Curling Club
TheMayflower Curling Club is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1905 and recognized as a landmark in our city’s rich history. The curling club is one of the largest clubs east of Ontario and one of the most well-known in all of Canada. We at Good Robot occasionally host events in their wonderful club house, donating a portion of our profits back to maintaining the Club.
LOCAL THEATRE GROUPS
One of the co-founders of Good Robot grew up in a theatre household. We understand how difficult it is for the performing arts to attain funding. Therefore, we try to support as many local theatre groups as possible through various incentives. Past partners include 2b Theatre, DaPoPo Theatre, The Villain’s Theatre, and The Ship’s Company Theatre.
HALIFAX POP EXPLOSION
HPX is an annual festival that presents over 150 artists, comedians and speakers in more than 15 venues across Halifax. Along with Garrison Brewing and Gahan House, Good Robot sponsors HPX in order to keep Halifax a burgeoning scene for musicians.
GOODWILL: We host two donation-based incentives
GOODWILL BOT
Every Monday a different nonprofit organization enters our taproom to engage our patrons, potentially recruit new members, and receive $1 of each pint sale that evening. We try to support many community incentives, focusing on underserved communities and communities fitting the interests of our diverse clientele. Therefore, we typically do not fund the following incentives:
- Events or organizations outside of Nova Scotia
- Bands. Sorry, folks, but there are too many to play preference!
- Sports or athletics groups (though we do consider some underserved or quirky sports)
- Student or university teams or groups
- Political parties
- Asks exceeding $500 unless there is room for a substantial partnership. We are still a small business and have a limited amount we can donate without mutually benefiting in a grander way
DONATIONS
We are happy to support and consider various community fundraising incentives. To learn more, visit our Goodwill page.
Good Robot Brewing Co. makes videos. Fun videos. Important videos.
When the Nova Scotia film credit perished, we were quick to exploit the unemployed misfit. Peruse the entire collection here to learn important things like how not to behave at a bar, why we don't believe in the term craft beer, why Donkey Kong is no longer allowed in our establishment, and how women and femmes play an important part in brewing.
