Pride didn’t begin with parades and glitter bombs, it began with bloodshed and fire. The Stonewall Riots in 1969 marked the beginning of a revolution. Folks like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Storme Delaverie bravely stepped up and fought for gay liberation and gay rights, rights which are still debated in North America along with many other countries around the world. When we talk about rights we mean the right to exist without fear of harassment, violence, and discrimination.
